[Saba Sports News] A dramatic “Three Heroes Battle a Lone General” has already begun at the World Championships. Last week, 27-year-old Chen Yu Fei won the Macau Open, claiming her fifth title since returning to competition, and her world ranking rose to No. 4. This change has locked in the women’s singles seedings for the World Championships: Wang Zhiyi, Han Yue, and Chen Yu Fei have become the second, third, and fourth seeds, respectively, forming a group that will surround the top seed An Se Young. According to the World Championship draw rules, the No. 1 seed An Se Young will be placed in the top half of the bracket at position 1, while the No. 2 seed Wang Zhiyi will be in the bottom half at position 64. The No. 3 seed Han Yue and the No. 4 seed Chen Yu Fei will be determined by the draw to see who goes into the top half at position 17 (possibly facing An Se Young in the quarterfinals) and who goes into the bottom half at position 48 (possibly facing Wang Zhiyi in the quarterfinals). Regardless of the draw, it will not be easy for An Se Young to successfully defend her women’s singles title. She will need to beat at least two Chinese top female players in a row on her way to the final-and possibly face a “wheeling battle” from the entire Chinese team.
