[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, Athletic Club defender Yeray Alvarez has been suspended by UEFA for 10 months. The player tested positive for a banned substance during a Europa League match against Manchester United and has been temporarily suspended since June 2 of this year. He will be allowed to resume training on February 2 next year and return to play on April 2. UEFA’s investigation has now concluded, and Yeray has been handed a 10-month suspension. UEFA stated in its ruling that the player did not intentionally take the banned substance, as it has been proven that the ingestion was due to his use of his partner’s hair loss medication, which contained the prohibited substance. The player had no intention of doping. UEFA pointed out that, according to current regulations, athletes are responsible for their actions, and therefore, Yeray should have confirmed whether the medication was permitted before using it. Yeray voluntarily accepted the suspension and will be eligible to play again from April 2, 2026. However, according to current regulations, the player can resume team training two months before that date.
