[Saba Sports News] According to motorsport.com, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed during an interview on the Emmy Awards red carpet that a sequel to the F1-themed film is under discussion. The film, produced by Apple Original Films and directed by Joseph Kosinski, has been a massive success since its release in late June and is now available on streaming platforms and DVD/Blu-ray. Cook stated, “We are indeed discussing this project. It was our blockbuster hit this summer, and we are incredibly proud of it. Brad Pitt’s performance was outstanding, and the entire team’s talent was top-notch. We can’t wait for audiences to see more exciting content.” The success of the film coincides with a critical period in F1’s global broadcasting rights negotiations. ESPN’s contract with F1 expires this year, and rumors suggest Apple is bidding for future broadcasting rights. The brand and commercial influence brought by the film could give Apple an advantage in the negotiations. Derek Chang, CEO of F1’s parent company Liberty Media, stated at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference, “We are in discussions with several major markets and will have results soon. We are looking for partners not just in the traditional sense of broadcasting races but as holistic collaborators who can help fans engage more deeply with the sport’s content and interact with sponsors.”
