[Saba Sports News] Previous reports claimed that Fabio Cannavaro’s annual salary after becoming the head coach of Uzbekistan reached €4 million. Recently, Cannavaro’s side refuted these claims. Cannavaro’s team specifically emphasized that his actual salary is less than half of the amount reported by various media outlets recently. Cannavaro further stated: “As the new head coach of the Uzbekistan national team, I cannot hide my dissatisfaction with the fake news – reports claiming that the Uzbekistan Football Association hired me with a net annual salary of €4 million, placing me among the top ten highest-paid coaches globally, have spread rapidly online.” Additionally, Cannavaro added: “I had expected more rigorous fact-checking. Fake news in sports journalism is creating an increasingly uncontrollable vicious cycle. This incident happening to me has made me personally feel the harm of this phenomenon – it not only damages the interests of platform users but also leaves those targeted by rumors helpless due to the speed of online dissemination.” Regarding his motivation for accepting the offer from Uzbekistan, Cannavaro explained: “There is only one truth. I accepted the proposal to coach Uzbekistan with great enthusiasm, focusing on the World Cup journey and the development of young talents in this emerging football region.”
