[Saba Sports News] Recently, the BWF announced the members of the BWF Athletes’ Commission for the 202––2029 term. The following five athletes will represent the global badminton player community: An Se-young, Doha Hany, Jia Yifan, Debora Jille, and Pusarla Venkata Sindhu. All five were the sole nominees for their positions and were therefore automatically elected. Paris 2024 Olympic champions An Se-young and Jia Yifan, along with Jille and Hany, are all first-time members of the commission, while the high-profile Sindhu was re-elected, serving her third term. The Athletes’ Commission plays a crucial role in ensuring athletes’ voices are reflected in sports decision-making. As an advisory body to the BWF Council, the commission provides input on key issues such as rules and regulations, athlete welfare, and players’ overall experience on the international tour. In the coming weeks, the newly formed commission will vote to elect a Chair and Deputy Chair. The elected Chair, after a review process, will also receive a formal voting seat on the BWF Council, further strengthening the connection between athletes and global leadership.
