[Saba Sports News] Recently, Yuki Tsunoda apologized to the RB team for his comments about Liam Lawson after the F1 United States Grand Prix qualifying, with the Japanese driver calling his own remarks “unnecessary.” During Saturday’s qualifying in Austin, Tsunoda felt he was impeded by the New Zealand driver and consequently criticized Lawson. The two drivers had already had an encounter during Friday’s Sprint Qualifying session, where both were trying to complete their final laps in SQ1 in time. After qualifying, Tsunoda commented on his rival: “As for Lawson, it’s the same old story. He always intentionally does something, it’s ridiculous, that’s him. Honestly, I don’t care about him at all.” Lawson responded by saying he “had no idea what he was talking about.” During the first drivers’ press conference on Thursday ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, Tsunoda and Lawson were asked if they had spoken since the US round and if they were now willing to compete on track together. Tsunoda responded: “I don’t think we’ve spoken in person,” after which Lawson, beside him, commented: “To be honest, I really don’t know what happened at the Austin race.” Tsunoda then explained: “I apologized to the team, to RB, for the comments I made in front of the media – it was really unnecessary.”
