[Saba Sports News] In the women’s doubles semifinals of the 2025 French Badminton Open, the renowned Chinese “Fan Chen” pair, Chen Qingchen / Jia Yifan, who have been partnered for 11 years, lost to their teammates Li Yijing / Luo Xumin 16-21, 17-21, concluding the final international match for this legendary duo. The BWF official website published an article praising them: “This defeat marks the end of the Fan Chen partnership that rewrote the women’s badminton record books. Since pairing up in 2014, Chen Qingchen / Jia Yifan have amassed four World Championship titles (2017, 2021, 2022, 2023), a Paris Olympic gold medal, a Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medal, two Asian Championship gold medals, and 19 World Tour titles. They also hold the Guinness World Record for the most World Championships women’s doubles titles won by the same pair (four).” Jia Yifan and Chen Qingchen began their partnership in 2014, winning the World Junior Championships women’s doubles title twice in 2014 and 2015. The “Fan Chen Combination” won the Asian Games championship twice during their career. In the Tokyo 2021 Olympic final, the “Fan Chen Combination” lost to Indonesian pair Greysia Polii / Apriani Rahayu 19-21, 15-21, regrettably taking silver. Later that year, they finally claimed the top podium spot at China’s National Games. At last year’s Paris Olympics, Chen Qingchen / Jia Yifan defeated Liu Shengshu / Tan Ning 22-20, 21-15 to win the Olympic gold medal, realizing their Grand Slam dream.
