[Saba Sports News] Xavi Vilajoana, who has recently announced his candidacy for the presidency of FC Barcelona, strongly criticized the current president, Joan Laporta, in a media interview. He bluntly stated: “Those running the club today are steering without direction, lacking both strategic planning and rigorous attitude. I see no values that lead us to glory.” His accusations focus on three main areas: financial reliance on asset sales, significant reduction in youth academy investment, and an authoritarian management style that neglects the members’ interests. In our opinion, Vilajoana advocates for a long-term, stable development model centered on the youth academy and prioritizing member interests. In contrast, Laporta’s approach focuses on crisis management and commercial expansion premised on financial health. Objectively, Barcelona’s finances show signs of recovery, but long-term concerns from asset sales remain. While youth academy investment has been reduced, it continues to yield strong talent output. This debate has become a core issue in the presidential election, and Barcelona’s future likely requires finding a balance between adhering to tradition and adapting flexibly.
