[Saba Sports News] According to German media reports, the German Football League (DFL) passed a resolution in a meeting on Thursday, stating that starting from the 2026/27 season, players making their debut in the Bundesliga or 2. Bundesliga will wear a debut badge on their jerseys. This measure by the DFL draws inspiration from the models used in Major League Soccer (MLS) and Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States.Earlier this year, when Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller made his debut for Vancouver Whitecaps, he wore a special “debut” patch above the Adidas logo on the right side of his jersey. In the meeting held in Frankfurt, 36 professional clubs approved the proposal: starting from the 2026/27 season, adult players making their first appearance in the Bundesliga or 2. Bundesliga will wear a clearly visible debut patch on their jerseys. This “debut badge” will be removed immediately after the match and embedded into a special trading card for the player, created by the DFL’s partner, Topps. It is worth mentioning that the Bundesliga will be the first football league in Europe to introduce a debut player badge.
