[Saba Sports News] Recently, the F1 team McLaren held an auction at Sotheby’s, and the items up for bid attracted significant attention because one of them was a 2026 F1 car that has not yet competed, been unveiled, or even been fully manufactured. It ultimately sold for $11.5 million, with the owner set to receive the physical car in 2028.
In the interim, McLaren will provide the buyer with a non-drivable 2025 display car for exhibition purposes. Next season, the buyer will have the opportunity to closely watch their newly purchased car racing on the track. However, the delivery conditions are quite stringent. The owner must strictly adhere to various regulations, and upon receiving the 2026 car in 2028, it can only be used for demonstration or track day events, with McLaren engineers and mechanics present. The owner must also comply with the terms agreed upon with the team, its power unit supplier Mercedes, the FIA, and major suppliers.
