[Saba Sports News] Recently, some UK media discussed the topic of betting sponsorship in the Premier League, noting that more than half of the clubs—11 out of 20 teams—will face a significant decline in commercial revenue next season. This situation arises from a voluntary ban agreed upon by the clubs nearly three years ago, which is set to take effect, prohibiting betting companies from becoming front-of-shirt sponsors.Currently, there are still 11 Premier League clubs with betting sponsors on the front of their jerseys this season. As the ban comes into effect, these clubs are intensely competing to find alternative sponsors. Industry insiders have pointed out that the sponsorship fees paid by betting companies are often double that of other industry sponsors. When up to 11 clubs are vying for limited alternative resources at the same time, finding sponsors at comparable rates becomes extremely challenging.Although betting sponsorship on sleeve badges is not prohibited, clubs like Brentford have already felt the impact. Notably, the traditional “big six” in the Premier League, along with Newcastle, Leeds United, and Brighton, currently have no betting-related front shirt sponsorships, raising concerns about smaller clubs falling further behind financially compared to larger teams.
