[Saba Sports News] Recently, the opening ceremony of the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships took place in the Laoshan District of Qingdao. The event attracted teams from 12 countries and regions, with over 300 participants competing.
Records show that the Badminton Asia Team Championships were established in 2016 and are organized by the Badminton Asia Confederation. In even-numbered years, men’s and women’s team competitions are held, while mixed team competitions take place in odd-numbered years, serving as the qualification events for that year’s Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, or Sudirman Cup in the Asia region.
Chinese badminton player Jia Yifan was appointed as the ambassador for this year’s team championships and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. Jia expressed that this event is a valuable opportunity for young players to hone their skills and gain experience, emphasizing that team competitions test a team’s cohesion. As a member of the team, she hopes to work with her teammates to strive for the championship on the court.
The 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships are scheduled to be held from February 3 to 8 at the Qingdao Guoxin Sports Hall, marking the second consecutive year that Qingdao will host this event. With the conclusion of the opening ceremony, this prestigious team competition representing the highest level of badminton in Asia officially enters the preparation sprint phase.
