[Saba Sports News] Recently, the Dutch Eredivisie team Twente officially announced that former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been appointed as the club’s technical director. Ten Hag will officially join Twente Football Club on February 1, signing a contract that runs until mid-2028. He is set to replace the current technical director, Jan Stroey, in the 2026-2027 season, as Stroey recently announced his intention to step down at the end of this season. To prepare for the new season, Ten Hag has already begun working on the daily operations of Twente.
This return marks a comeback to where Ten Hag started his playing career. During his playing days, he achieved many accomplishments with Twente, and it was also where he began his coaching career. Born on February 2, 1970, in Haaksbergen, he began his football journey at his hometown club SV Bonboys and joined the elite youth training team of Twente in 1985. In October 1989, the midfielder/defender made his first-team debut in an away match against VVV-Venlo. From 1989 to 2002, Ten Hag wore the red and white jersey of Twente, appearing in a total of 258 official matches over various periods. In 2001, he led Twente to victory as captain in the KNVB Cup.
