[Saba Sports News] According to Dutch media reports, 18-year-old Daan van Reeuwijk, a young talent from Breda, has announced his departure from the team and immediate retirement, just one month after making his debut in the Eredivisie. In response, van Reeuwijk stated, “I am certain that I want to stop my professional football career and focus on social work. During this time, I had in-depth discussions with many people at Breda and my family. The club provided me with great guidance throughout this process. Ultimately, I made this choice on my own, and I am 100% supportive of it.” He also expressed, “I want to take a step back; this is not the life I want.”
Now, van Reeuwijk will return to school to find a university that aligns with his life goals. He was regarded as one of the most promising stars in the Breda team, joining their youth training system in 2017. In 2019, the defender moved to Ajax, but returned to Breda just a year later and announced a contract extension with the club until 2029 in 2025. In a match against PSV last November, van Reeuwijk made his Eredivisie debut as a center-back for Breda.
