2026 Indonesia Masters Badminton Tournament
Event Dates: 2026-1-20 to 1-25 (HKT)

The 2026 Indonesia Masters badminton tournament will officially kick off from January 20 to 25 at the renowned Istora Gelora Bung Karno sports hall in Jakarta. As a BWF Super 500 event, it boasts a total prize pool of $475,000. The Indonesia Masters not only influences players’ ranking points but also serves as an important stage to assess the strength of top players due to its unique, vibrant local badminton atmosphere.
In men’s singles, Thai star Kunlavut Vitidsarn will be the top seed in the upper half of the draw, where he will face Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in the first round. In the previous India Open, Kunlavut was surprisingly defeated by Loh Kean Yew, ending his run in the quarter-finals. In the first game of that match, Kunlavut maintained a good form, displaying both offensive and defensive skills to comfortably win 21-14. However, in the second game, Loh accelerated his pace and turned the tide to win 21-15, leveling the match. The third game saw a close contest, but Kunlavut’s physical condition declined, leading to a loss at 17-21, resulting in a disappointing 1-2 exit without reaching the semifinals. Nevertheless, as one of the favorites for this tournament, Kunlavut has been performing relatively well, having previously won the Malaysia Open. Thus, many expect Kunlavut to achieve good results in the Indonesia Masters.
In the lower half of the draw, Denmark’s second seed Anders Antonsen will face Canadian up-and-comer Brian Yang in the first round. Antonsen reached the semifinals in the previous Malaysia Open thanks to his excellent performance but was unfortunately eliminated 0-2 by the current world number one, Shi Yu Qi. Antonsen is a technically well-rounded player, though he may lack a bit of power in his smashes, his precision makes him a significant threat to opponents. Additionally, he excels at the net, using finesse and skill to control the pace of the match and create offensive opportunities through net shots. He also reliably counters opponents’ attacks and even seeks counter-attack opportunities when on the defensive. After a break for the India Open, Antonsen is expected to make a strong return in the Indonesia Masters.
As the top two seeds, Kunlavut and Antonsen are, understandably, the favorites to win the tournament, and fans are very familiar with their capabilities. The two have faced each other ten times before, with Antonsen having a slight edge at 6 wins to 4 losses. However, in their last three encounters, Kunlavut has won decisively. Their match will be one of the highlights of the tournament. Who will take home the championship? Let’s wait and see!
