[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation has officially announced the list of host cities for the 2027-2030 World Tour, with Chengdu successfully securing the hosting rights for the China Open Badminton Championships for the next four years. The competition will be held at the High-tech Sports Center Gymnasium. This marks Chengdu’s second time hosting a world-class badminton event following the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup.
According to reports, the China Badminton Open is one of five Super 1000 events in the BWF World Tour, alongside the Malaysian Open Badminton Championships, the All England Open Badminton Championships, the Indonesia Open Badminton Championships, and the Denmark Open Badminton Championships, ranking just below the Olympics, World Championships, and Year-End Finals. Historically, the China Open Badminton Championships is usually held in September each year, spanning 11 days. The tournament features five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Participants qualify through rankings or qualification rounds, with all being top badminton players from around the world.
The tournament operates under the BWF’s sanctioned point system, with points contributing to the BWF ranking system. In the previous 2023-2026 cycle, the China Open Badminton Championships was hosted by Changzhou. Thomas Lund, the Secretary General of the BWF, gave high praise for Chengdu’s ability to host the event. He noted that Chengdu has first-class venue facilities, a vibrant tournament atmosphere, and efficient collaboration among various departments, which provide optimal support for the successful hosting of the event.
