[Saba Sports News] Mercedes F1 Team has confirmed that young driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli was involved in a traffic accident near Imola over the weekend. It is reported that after the accident, Antonelli immediately called 911, and the police arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. At the time of the incident, Antonelli was driving a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Race Sports Collectors Edition,” a model limited to only 200 units worldwide.
Footage from bystanders at the scene shows significant damage to the rear of the vehicle. Rumors suggest that Antonelli crashed into the guardrail at speeds exceeding 180 km/h, making contact three times. Fortunately, he was not injured, and the accident only involved his car. According to plans, Antonelli is set to participate in the official first round of F1 preseason testing at the Bahrain International Circuit from February 11 to 13.
It’s worth mentioning that last year, Antonelli’s father also made headlines due to a car accident. He had a minor collision with a local traffic officer while driving onto the Imola circuit to watch his son compete in the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, leading to an investigation by the Bologna prosecutor’s office. Ultimately, the case was dismissed, with the judge ruling that “there was no act of resisting a public official,” and the involved traffic officer did not file a personal injury complaint.
