[Saba Sports News] During the previous FA Cup tie, a video emerged of Chelsea players ignoring ball boys in the players’ tunnel before the match, immediately drawing widespread attention. The footage showed Chelsea’s players walking through the tunnel in complete coldness, paying no attention to the young children beside them. The captain, wearing headphones, walked straight ahead with a blank expression, not even glancing at the ball boys. Several other players also ignored the children throughout, offering no waves or high-fives, showing complete disregard for the kids waiting for them. In the aftermath, numerous fans flooded social media to criticize the players, branding them spoiled and arrogant, saying they earn huge salaries yet lack basic respect and basic human decency.
In my view, this incident has significantly damaged Chelsea Football Club. The team may have won the match, but it lost the warmth that football should embody. The club’s image has taken a major hit, and the players have been labeled arrogant and indifferent, with many now questioning their professionalism. The incident has reignited debate over the etiquette of interaction between Premier League players, fans and young ball boys. For these children, a close encounter with professional footballers can be one of the driving forces behind their football dreams. A few seconds of kindness from players can stay with a child for years. Yet these players refused even this small gesture, so it is no surprise they have faced widespread criticism online.
