[Saba Sports News] At a recent meeting of the F1 Commission, a new proposal was discussed to expand the number of sprint races from 6 to 12 starting from the 2027 season. This news has attracted attention from fans since its confirmation. From a commercial perspective, as the global popularity of Formula 1 continues to rise, sprint races have become major attention-grabbers. Organizers are willing to invest more in hosting them, broadcasters are keen to increase airtime, and sponsors can gain greater exposure. Whether it’s the official organization or related partners, all stand to benefit from this expansion, making it a natural trend.
However, the author believes that this expansion is certainly not good news for teams and drivers, as it will only add to their workload. Sprint races are particularly taxing on car components, leading to greater wear and tear on tires and engines alike. Moreover, with more races, the risk of crashes increases, and the margin for error becomes significantly lower. If the expansion goes ahead, teams will face two intense battles almost every weekend, posing significant challenges in terms of budget, spare parts, and the physical stamina of drivers and staff.
