
[Saba Sports News] According to the report The Economic Value and Impact of Sport in Spain, the sports industry contributed €44.839 billion to Spain’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), accounting for 3.28% of the total gross value added. Furthermore, the industry provided a total of 635,757 jobs, representing 3.22% of total employment in Spain. The report indicates that real estate, commerce, and hospitality are the three sectors most heavily impacted by sports among all industries. The study also found that every €1 directly contributed to GDP generates an additional €1.38 in value, while each directly created job leads to another 1.6 jobs. Among these, football alone accounts for approximately 180,000 direct and indirect jobs, making it one of the most important economic branches in the country. Every euro invested in football triggers a ripple effect across sectors including tourism, media, retail, and hospitality.
The editor believes that the football is one of the most important net contributors to the Spanish economy. Matches staged here are watched globally, generating around €1.2 billion in revenue, of which approximately €750 million comes from television broadcasting rights. The only cost involved is satellite transmission fees, totaling roughly €40 million, and this low cost yields huge returns.
