[Saba Sports News] Singapore player HEE Yong Kai Terry and Indonesian player Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja have ended their mixed doubles partnership after only two months. The pair, who first teamed up in January 2026, were eliminated in the first round at several international events, including a recent first-round exit at the All England Open Badminton Championships. The partnership was initially an experimental cross-national pairing intended to combine HEE’s experience with Widjaja’s height and attacking power. However, despite occasional bright moments, the two were never able to establish consistent on-court chemistry.
According to the Singapore Badminton Association, the split was a mutual decision, as both felt the pairing had not progressed as hoped. After the split, HEE is expected to reunite with his wife and long-time partner TAN Wei Han Jessica. The husband-and-wife duo remain Singapore’s top-ranked mixed doubles pair and had only separated temporarily to try different tactics. Meanwhile, Widjaja will return to the Indonesian national team setup to assess her next steps.
The editor notes that it is unusual in badminton for a partnership to be formed and dissolved within 60 days; such cases typically reflect short-term tactical adjustments or sudden issues. Nevertheless, these experimental pairings are part of broader strategies aimed at improving players’ adaptability and competitiveness.
