[Saba Sports News] Recently, Manchester City star Erling Haaland purchased Norway’s most expensive book ever at a record price of 1.3 million Norwegian kroner (approximately €115,595.73) at an auction, and presented this precious gift to Tønsberg, the Norwegian municipality where he grew up. The book is a unique edition of Heimskringla by Snorri Sturluson, published in 1594, and was successfully acquired at the auction of the collection of corporate magnate John Frederick Aldfer on December 5 last year. This edition of Heimskringla is the Mattis Storrstolen edition, widely hailed as “the classic of all classics,” and is the only complete copy preserved in private hands. The identity of the successful bidder had been kept confidential until now, but it has been confirmed that the telephone bid was placed jointly by Haaland and his father Alf-Inge Haaland.
The editor believes that this unique edition purchased by Haaland has thus become the most expensive book ever sold in Norway. With this remarkable gift, the football star has demonstrated his generosity towards his hometown city. Thanks to this local football hero, Tønsberg’s cultural heritage will be enriched with a truly invaluable treasure.
