[Saba Sports News] The 2026 Thailand Open badminton tournament will be held in Bangkok from May 12 to May 17. Recently, the sponsor of Malaysian shuttler Teo Ee Yi confirmed that he will partner Chia Weijie to enter the Thailand Open. This means the men’s doubles pair of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi have officially split after a decade-long partnership.
The duo, who once reached a career-high world ranking of 6th, began playing together in 2015 and won the men’s doubles bronze medal at the 2021 BWF World Championships in Spain. Meanwhile, Ong Yew Sin will not participate in the Thailand Open as he is currently searching for a new partner. To continue his professional career, the 31-year-old Ong is likely to team up with Lwi Sheng Hao, who is currently Chia Weijie’s partner.
Some media have speculated that Ong and Teo split due to irreconcilable differences. Neither has publicly addressed the reason for their breakup so far.
In our opinion, the 33-year-old Teo Ee Yi’s switch of partner represents a major adjustment in the later stage of his career, aimed at extending his competitive career and pursuing greater achievements. Despite the uncertainties, the move shows his determination to keep chasing his dreams on the court.
