[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, football fans have accused FIFA of misleading ticket buyers, claiming that the seat allocation for the World Cup does not match expectations. Many fans who purchased tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have accused FIFA of engaging in misleading practices during the ticket sales process. FIFA sold more than 3 million tickets during the autumn and winter periods, dividing them into four categories, each corresponding to different seating areas within the stadiums. Based on the colour-coded maps on the ticket sales platform, the most expensive Category 1 tickets appeared to guarantee buyers seats in the lower tiers of the stadiums or the best second-tier areas in certain venues. However, when FIFA assigned specific seats last week, many fans found themselves allocated to unfavourable positions in the corners or behind the goals. Some holders of Category 1 tickets were even placed in areas previously marked as Category 2.
The editor believes that FIFA’s ticketing strategy for the 2026 World Cup has sparked dissatisfaction and complaints from fans, partly due to the conflict between its traditional ticketing approach and the commercial expectations of the North American market. FIFA has long used a category-based ticketing system, whereas North American sports fans are accustomed to selecting and paying for specific seats, meaning they know exactly what they are purchasing.
