[Saba Sports News] According to Italian media reports, Leonardo Bonucci continues to work with the Italy national team. Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup in the play-offs this March, marking their third consecutive World Cup absence. Following this, Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President Gabriele Gravina, Italy team manager Gianluigi Buffon, and head coach Gennaro Gattoso all resigned. However, Italian media revealed that fellow Italian legend Leonardo Bonucci is still carrying out his work with the national team. A former Italian international centre-back, Bonucci retired in 2024 and began his coaching career. He reached a cooperation agreement with the Italian Football Federation in October 2024, signing a contract until June 2026. The contract stipulates that, according to the needs of the FIGC, Bonucci may be assigned to work with the coaching staff of national teams and youth teams of different age groups for development.
The editor believes that Bonucci has always said that he hopes to become a head coach in the future. For now, he needs to finish his work with the Italian national team first before considering anything else.
