[Saba Sports News] On May 13, Chen Tang Jie and his partner Toh Ee Wei were jointly awarded the 2025 Malaysian Sports Reporters Association-100PLUS Annual Best Athlete Award.
After receiving the award, Chen Tang Jie admitted that his old hip injury had seriously affected his on-court performance. The injury flared up again when he returned to Malaysia from China following the Badminton Asia Championships. He went through a tough period during this time, and he was grateful to his partner for giving him ample time to recover before making their comeback together. Chen Tang Jie stated that although the pair missed the recently concluded Thomas & Uber Cup, they have kept up high-intensity training to get back into top form this season. He regarded the injury as a brand-new challenge. Fortunately, his long-standing hip injury has recovered well, and he is fully ready for the Malaysia Masters kicking off next week.
Toh Ee Wei said this annual award came at the perfect moment, fueling their momentum ahead of the home-ground Malaysia Masters.
In my opinion, this accolade has cemented their status as Malaysia’s most influential mixed doubles pair on the international badminton scene in recent years. Their global standing has risen remarkably ever since they claimed the title at the 2025 BWF World Championships.
