[Saba Sports News] Robert Lewandowski, forward of FC Barcelona, has announced he will leave the club on a free transfer this summer. According to Spanish media, his departure will help Barcelona comply with the 1:1 financial rule in La Liga. It is reported that Lewandowski’s exit will free up around 24 million euros in wage space for Barcelona. Combined with the newly confirmed 71 million euros in VIP stand revenue verified by auditors and the ongoing renovation work at Camp Nou, the club is expected to meet the long-awaited La Liga 1:1 rule in this summer transfer window. Under this rule, clubs can fully use the amortization costs and transfer fees from outgoing players to sign new reinforcements. Lewandowski earns an annual salary of approximately 24 million euros this season and will leave when his contract expires on June 30. His wages will be removed from the club’s payroll for the 2026-2027 campaign. Alongside other financial adjustments and the expansion of VIP facilities at the stadium, Barcelona is set to break free from previous restrictions, under which it could only utilize 60% of released wage budget and 20% of transfer income.
The editor believes that for “franchise players” — core players whose salaries account for over 5% of the team’s total wage bill — only 70% of released salary space and 35% of transfer proceeds could be utilized previously. The 1:1 rule will scrap all such restrictions.
