Per Spanish sports outlet DSPORTS, Spain’s men’s national football team received an unannounced anti-doping check mid-training session while gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at their Las Rozas training base.

The inspection was independently arranged by Spain’s national anti-doping commission and fell outside standard inspection schedules set by FIFA and World Cup organisers. Authorities commented that the spot check is a regular measure designed to safeguard fair competition in tournaments.
The unscheduled check barely disrupted the team’s training rhythm. Right after the test procedure, players resumed training following head coach De la Fuente’s pre-set preparation schedule.

De la Fuente noted he has arranged rigorous physical and tactical assessments in daily training to gauge the real match fitness of recently recovered players. Spain will travel to A Coruña for a friendly fixture against Iraq, before flying to North America for the World Cup finals.
Spain opens its World Cup group stage campaign on June 16 in Atlanta against Cape Verde.
