[Saba Sports News] The Portuguese men’s national football team is preparing for the 2026 World Cup at Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras, Portugal. Under FIFA rules, all participating teams must arrive at their base camps five days prior to their opening match. Accordingly, the squad will fly to the United States on June 12.
The team will take a charter flight operated by TAP Air Portugal. The aircraft is an Airbus A330-900neo, decorated with the emblem of the Portuguese Football Federation and the slogan “It’s Portugal time”. TAP Air Portugal signed a deal with the federation back in January this year, naming it the official airline for Portugal throughout the 2026 and 2030 World Cups to provide air transport services. To guard against emergencies, the airline has prepared two identical charters featuring the same livery.
In my view, the flight arrangement stems from the partnership between TAP Air Portugal and the Portuguese Football Federation covering the 2026 and 2030 World Cups. The aircraft model carries no political or tactical implications. The fleet is run by a commercial airline rather than the Portuguese Air Force, making this purely a commercial arrangement.
