[Saba Sports News] Recently, 63-year-old Ronald Koeman, head coach of the Netherlands national football team, officially announced his resignation, bringing an end to his more than three-year tenure in charge of the Oranje. Via social media, Koeman stated that he would step down as the Dutch national team manager: “Last night, I made the official decision to leave the national team. Looking back on my coaching stint here, my heart is full of pride and gratitude. I have managed the Netherlands twice. Still, it hurts deeply to see this chapter end in such fashion. We all dreamed of making history at this World Cup, yet we fell short. No one is more disappointed than I am, and as head coach, I must take responsibility.” Koeman also opened up about his wife’s battle with cancer. “Football is my life, yet health is priceless. My wife has been fighting her illness all this time, yet she has always stood by me in my work. Words cannot fully express how thankful I am to her. I also want to thank every player I have worked alongside.”
The editor believes that Koeman was widely regarded as the main person to blame after the Netherlands suffered an upset elimination in the World Cup Round of 32. Koeman returned to take charge of the Dutch national team for his second spell in January 2023. Since then, he has led the side in a total of 44 matches, recording 24 wins, 9 draws and 11 losses.
