[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has officially unveiled its 2027–2028 BWF World Tour calendar. The new calendar features 35 tournaments worldwide, ranging from Super 1000 down to Super 100 levels, plus the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals. The tournament schedule runs throughout the year, spanning January to December. At the top tier, the Tour centres around five Super 1000 events staged across Asia and Europe. Each tournament lasts 11 days and covers two weekends. The singles draw accommodates 48 players, who compete in group stages before progressing to knockout rounds. Doubles events adopt a straight knockout format featuring 32 pairs. Collectively, all Super 1000 tournaments will host 1,095 matches, all broadcast globally. Every competition listed on the 2027–2028 calendar will adopt the new best-of-three games, 15-point scoring system. This rule comes into full force on 4 January 2027 as a long-term strategic initiative by the BWF to modernise competition formats and boost the global presentation of badminton.
The editor believes that these revisions help create a more balanced competition calendar, offer athletes ample recovery time, support them in chasing excellence, and allow them to extend their careers and achieve greater accomplishments.
