[Saba Sports News] According to renowned insider Shams, the Los Angeles Clippers and Toronto Raptors have finalized a trade involving Kawhi Leonard. The Clippers send out Kawhi Leonard and receive Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two first-round draft picks, one first-round pick swap and two second-round draft picks from the Raptors in return. It is reported that Leonard intends to retire as a member of the Raptors. The Raptors are offering their 2027 and 2029 first-round selections, with the pick swap taking place in 2030. Leonard began his professional career with the San Antonio Spurs. Blessed with an extraordinary wingspan and oversized hands, he developed his signature “Claw” defense and claimed the Defensive Player of the Year award at an early stage of his career. Traded to the Raptors in 2018, he spent just one season in Toronto yet led the team past the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks en route to the Finals, where they defeated the Golden State Warriors to secure the franchise’s first championship. He was named Finals MVP after averaging 28.5 points per game across the series. Following the title run, Leonard headed to his hometown Los Angeles to sign with the Clippers, embarking on a seven-year stint with the franchise. At present, Leonard has only one year remaining on his contract carrying an annual salary of $50.3 million, and the Clippers have no intention of offering him a long-term extension. The two sides launched trade talks recently, and Leonard’s camp has indicated he is only willing to pen a long-term deal with the Raptors.
The editor believes that Leonard plays a composed and efficient style of basketball with an unstoppable mid-range jump shot. Capable of both creating offense off the dribble and catching-and-shooting without the ball, he can shut down the opposing team’s top star on defense. With this return to Toronto, Leonard will once again shoulder the franchise’s championship pursuit.
