[Saba Sports News] Former Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist has proposed a unique idea for India. He suggested including World Cup winners in Team India’s dressing room ahead of the nearing showpiece event.
Gilchrist recommended that MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Yuvraj Singh, should be asked to spend some time with players and share their valuable insights with the Rohit Sharma-led team.
The 51-year-old wicket-keeper opined that it could be a superior move to engage the former players’ expertise with the current India World Cup squad.
“I can’t claim to know what it is like to be an Indian player, playing in India (laughs). It’s always intriguing. If I would be in the Indian hierarchy, I would be tapping into guys like Sachin (Tendulkar), MS (Dhoni) to come in and spend time with the group if they are available, and pass on all their experience. I would have tried to get guys like Yuvraj (Singh), who had so much going on in his life during that 2011 tournament, and ask them to speak openly about it,” said Gilchrist while talking with Sportstar.
Gilchrist mentioned that facing each other just before the World Cup will be an ideal test for India and Australia as they are top contenders to win the upcoming marquee event.
“Generally looking at various other nations and what they are doing, I can’t think of a better preparation than what Australia and India have. They are the two teams that will be definitely vying for the title, so to go up against some of the best teams in the world in Indian conditions, will be a real benchmark as to how you are travelling, leading into the tournament,” Gilchrist concluded.
Indis is set to host Australia for a three-match ODI series, starting on September 22 at Mohali. The next two fixtures will be played in Indore and Rajkot on September 24 and 27 respectively. India’s first match of the ICC World Cup 2023 is also against the Aussies on October 8 in Chennai.
