[Saba Sports News] India faced a double-whammy as after their innings defeat in the first Test of the series versus South Africa, the International Cricket Council (ICC) deducted two World Test Championship (WTC) points from their tally due to slow over-rate.
India were found two overs short in the Boxing Day Test, leading the ICC to dock their two WTC points as per the rule.
Moreover, Indian players were fined 10% of their match fee. As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, the players are fined 5% of their match fee for every over a team fails to bowl in the allotted time.
On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Langton Rusere, third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Stephen Harris leveled the charge. Match Referee Chris Broad imposed the sanctions.
India captain Rohit Sharma accepted the offence and the sanctions.
After their massive loss to the Proteas, India were at fifth position on the WTC table with 16 points and a points percentage of 44.44. They have now been pushed further down in the table at sixth place with 14 points and a points percentage of 38.89.
