[Saba Sports News] India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin received a comeback call from the BCCI selectors for the three-match home ODI series against Australia, starting on September 22nd in Mohali.
Ashwin is making a comeback in ODIs after 20 months and last played in January 2022 against South Africa.
He opened up and expressed his feelings after being selected for the series. He talked about his goals and also mentioned the message he received from the team management.
“It’s a great opportunity for me. It’s not about what I want to achieve with these opportunities, I want to enjoy myself and give myself the best chance to enjoy. I went back from the West Indies, I was just taking a break. I played a few club games. The team management has kept me in the loop. They said if there’s a chance, just stay ready. I was just touching base with my fitness, started bowling a few overs,” Ashwin said in video released by the BCCI.
Furthermore, the 37-year-old stated that he’s going to make some changes to his bowling in the series as ODI cricket now demands something different from spin bowlers, he believes.
“I want to bring something different to the table, something different from my perspective. So I’ve been working on some angles because ODI cricket is not about spin anymore. It’s about angles that you can present at the crease, the depth of the crease, the usage of that. I’m trying to put myself in a zone of discomfort to try and push barriers as always because what comes first for me is the pride in my performances,” he added.
Ashwin has played 114 ODIs for India so far, in which the tweaker has picked 152 wickets with an economy rate of 4.94 and an average of 33.59.
It’s a great opportunity for the veteran to impress the selectors with his performance as he may get a chance to feature in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which starts on October 5 in India.
