[Saba Sports News] The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently announced the 15-member squad, led by Jos Buttler, for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in India.
Fast-bowler Jofra Archer is not in the squad as he is still recovering from an elbow injury and is undergoing rehabilitation.
However, England national selector Luke Wright announced that Archer would travel with the squad to India but as a reserve player. According to Sky Sports, Wright stated, “Jofra Archer will be travelling with the squad to India. He is one of the reserves but we also need to look after him, focus on his rehab.”
Archer was last seen playing ODI cricket for England in March 2023 against Bangladesh at Chittagong, during which he took three wickets while giving away just 35 runs in 8.5 overs. Overall, Archer has played 21 ODIs in which he has taken 42 wickets with a bowling average of 21.73 and an economy rate of 4.80.
England, the defending champions, will start their World Cup 2023 campaign against the runners-up of the last edition New Zealand. They will lock horns in the opening match of the marquee event on 5th October in Ahmedabad. England will also face the hosts, India, on 29th October in Lucknow.
