[Saba Sports News] Sri Lanka, whose most of their key players are dealing with injuries, had Maheesh Theekshana as the latest addition to the list as the right-arm off-spinner sustained a hamstring damage in the match against Pakistan on Thursday.
Sri Lanka Cricket has now replaced Theekshana with the 27-year-old all-rounder, Sahan Arachchige, who has played 2 ODIs for Sri Lanka.
Theekshana injured his hamstring while diving near the boundary line in the fixture versus Pakistan. He completed his 10 overs, but was in visible discomfort, hobbling in the latter part of his spell.
“Maheesh Theekshana, who strained his right hamstring during the game against Pakistan, will not be available for the finals. A scan was done and confirmed the muscle injury,” Sri Lanka Cricket released a statement.
“Sri Lanka Cricket Selectors have brought in Sahan Arachchige into the squad in place of Theekshana. Theekshana will return to the High Performance Center to commence rehabilitation work,” the statement added.
Theekshana joins the list of injured players for Sri Lanka. The hosts are already missing the services of their first-choice players such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka, and Lahiru Kumara. However, the Dasun Shanaka-led side still made it to the finals for the 11th time in ODI Asia Cups history.
The summit clash between India and Sri Lanka is all set to take place on the 17th of September at the R. Premadasa Stadium located in Colombo.
