“Based on conversations I’ve had with people, the implication is that Mikal Bridges isn’t going to re-sign early this year, he’s going to wait until next year,” Marks said. Because he is subject to a six-month freeze (the Nets’ trade to the Knicks was announced in July), that means he is limited in how long he can re-sign early. Next year, he can sign a four-year contract extension early, which will give him more flexibility. That could change by Oct. 22, the current two-year deadline for early renewal. Maybe this deal did change his mind.”
Bridges has two years left on his original contract — $23.3 million for 2024-25 and $24.9 million for 2025-26. According to CBS ‘Sam Quins, Bridges is eligible for an early contract extension starting Oct. 2, but can only sign a two-year extension with the Knicks for a maximum of about $61 million. Six months after being traded, Bridges was eligible to sign an early extension for three years and up to $113 million. Bridges is eligible to sign a four-year, $156 million Max contract with the Knicks if he waits until next offseason to renew his contract, similar to that of teammate Jalen Brunson.
