The ICC will soon reveal one of the venues for the
eagerly awaited 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA and
the West Indies, will be a 34,000-seat portable stadium roughly 30 miles east
of New York City. The building will be built in East Meadow, a hamlet on Long
Island, some 30 miles east of Manhattan, in the 930-acre Eisenhower Park. It is
believed that the location will also host the highly anticipated match between
India and Pakistan.
The announcement is expected to be made soon after
serious negotiations between the ICC and New York City officials to build a
comparable pop arena in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx fell up. Following
strong opposition from some of the citizens living around the park and one of
the cricket leagues that is based out of the same park, the city officials were
forced to abandon the plans for Bronx. Nassau County gained as a result of the
Bronx’s loss because the ICC demonstrated its ability to move quickly to arrange
talks with Nassau County representatives, who are in charge of running
Eisenhower Park.
There has been a lot of clamour inside the ICC for
cricket to gain traction in the USA. The nation has a two-pronged draw because
it has the largest media market in the world and the fastest-growing cricket
market globally. According to cash value, the USA is thought to be among the
top 4 countries for media rights for ICC events. One such affirmative step from
the ICC was the selection of the United States as co-hosts for the T20 World
Cup.
The Eisenhower Park arrangement should significantly
reduce ICC’s issues with US venues. The USA received roughly 20 games from the
ICC, which will presumably be split among the three venues. Church Street Park
in Morrisville, North Carolina, a different MLC location, is also thought to be
a candidate to host a few World Cup games. However, there are no practise
facilities or permanent structures at the location.
The 20-team World Cup will begin on June 4 and end on
June 30, according to an earlier announcement from the ICC.
