[Saba Sports News] India’s World Cup 2023 has been confirmed with the side making a forced change.
Ravichandran Ashwin has taken Axar Patel’s place in the squad as the latter is yet to recover from an injury he picked up in the Asia Cup 2023.
Consequently, the all-rounder was ruled out of the ODI series versus Australia. However, it was earlier reported that he would regain full fitness before the World Cup starts.
But now, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has now confirmed that India have chosen to replace Axar with Ashwin.
While there were already strong indications that Ashwin could get to feature in the World Cup, his performance in his comeback series against Australia further intensified the calls to include the off-spinner the squad.
He claimed a three-wicket haul in the Indore ODI against Australia. This was only his fourth ODI in the last six years.
As expected, the rest of the Indian contingent for the mega event remained the same.
Rohit Sharma and Co. will start their World Cup journey in Chennai on October 8. Their campaign-opener is scheduled against Australia.
