The 2026 YONEX Swiss Open (Super 300) will officially take place from March 10 to March 15 at St. Jakobshalle Basel in Basel, Switzerland. As a tournament held during the break after the All England Open Championships, many top players have chosen to rest or adjust and skip the Swiss Open. This has created an excellent opportunity for some mid-tier players to earn ranking points. The tournament offers a total prize pool of $250,000, with the champion earning 7,000 ranking points.
In the Men’s Singles event, top seed Li Shifeng of China is seeded in the top half. He will face Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah of Indonesia in the first round. The Indonesian player is not highly ranked in the world and is not expected to pose a major threat to Li Shifeng. In the recently concluded All England Open Championships, Li Shifeng reached the quarterfinals, where he unfortunately lost 0-2 to India’s Lakshya Sen. Li possesses solid basic skills, excellent physical and athletic abilities, powerful offense and smashes, as well as solid defense. However, he lacks a bit of creativity in shot tactics. When his opponents catch up in points, he tends to rush the net and attack blindly, leading to mental fluctuations—a weakness that has persisted throughout his career. Nevertheless, Li Shifeng is still young and has great room for growth and improvement. In the bottom half, second seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei will meet China’s Wang Zhengxing in the first round.
As he has aged, Chou Tien Chen’s competitive form seems to have declined slightly this season. In the previous All England Open, he was eliminated 0-2 by Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan in the 1/8 finals. At 36 years old, Chou’s net play and backcourt techniques have become increasingly polished with age and experience. He moves nimbly, quickly and coherently. Among active men’s singles players, he hits powerful smashes, and his burst speed is hard to match for most athletes in their thirties. In addition, years of competition have endowed Chou Tien Chen with outstanding stamina and strong mental toughness. He rarely makes mistakes at crucial points, and his tactical execution is impeccable. Few players in today’s badminton world can match his tournament experience.
Without a doubt, the biggest highlight of the 2026 YONEX Swiss Open is the “young vs veteran showdown” between Li Shifeng and Chou Tien Chen. One is in his prime, while the other is an experienced veteran with delicate skills. If they meet in the final, it will surely be a high-quality clash. Besides, whether a group of young players can achieve breakthroughs and gain experience on the international stage will also be a major attraction of the tournament. A battle for supremacy, a storm of youth—let us look forward to this spectacular badminton feast!
