On January 17, Suryakumar Yadav, an Indian batter,
underwent groyne surgery in Munich to treat a sports hernia. The disease grew
worse over time and necessitated medical attention. After undergoing surgery in
December for an ankle injury sustained during India’s tour of South Africa,
this is the second procedure he has undergone in recent months.
In lieu of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya for the
three-match series in South Africa, Suryakumar was chosen India’s T20I captain.
On December 12, in the second Twenty20 International in Gqeberha, he scored 56
off 36 balls, and on December 14, in the third T20I in Johannesburg, he scored
100 off 56 balls.
Up till a week ago, Suryakumar was in Bengaluru for
his ankle surgery’s rehabilitation. He is probably going to start his groyne
surgery rehabilitation in the middle of February. IPL 2024, which is scheduled
to start in the third week of March, is probably when he will play again.
“I want to thank everyone for their concerns and
well wishes for my health, and I am happy to tell you all that I will be back
very soon,” he said in a post on X after the surgery.
He was not included in India’s ODI team for the next
three-match series in South Africa, but due to injuries, he was not available
for selection for the most recent T20I series against Afghanistan at home.
As the 2024 T20 World Cup gets underway in June in the
USA and the West Indies, India defeated Afghanistan 3-0 in their final Twenty20
International series. The series decider in Bengaluru proved to be the
first-ever T20 international match to be decided after two Super Overs.
