[Saba Sports News] Moroccan football legend Hassan Akesbi, the top African goalscorer in Ligue 1 history, has died at the age of 89 after an illness, according to L ‘Equipe.

Hassan Akos came to France in 1955 and spent six seasons with Nimes Olympique, scoring 114 goals in more than 200 games and setting the record as the club’s all-time top scorer. His career, which also included stints with Reims and Monaco, saw him score a total of 173 goals in Ligue 1, making him the highest-scoring African player in Ligue 1 history.
