Calvin Oftana contributed a team-high 25 points and teamed up with Kelly Williams and Jayson Castro to spark a scoring surge in the clutch on Thursday in the PBA Governors Cup, Helped Tropang Giga beat Meralco 108-99 again.
Late in the game, Williams, Castro and Offtaner each drove through Meralco’s defense to extend the lead from 100-97 to 106-97, establishing a safe enough lead with 50 seconds left.
It was the fourth straight win for TNT, which improved to 6-1 at the top of Group A and secured a place in the quarterfinals after 10 group games.
Manager Chot Reyes was pleased with his team’s ability to withstand Meralco’s comeback, especially as the game was much tougher than their first 93-73 showdown.
