[Saba Sports News] The NBA Summer League seems to have its own version of Van Wilder.
Veteran forward Kevin Knox had a standout game for the Golden State Warriors in Summer League on Sunday, scoring a game-high 31 points with 11 rebounds and five triples in the semifinal against the Miami Heat (though the Heat won 102-99). However, the bigger story for many was that Knox, the No. 9 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, was still playing in Summer League over six years later. Users on X roasted Knox for seemingly overstaying his Summer League welcome.
At 24, Knox is young for someone drafted six years ago but has six years of NBA experience, averaging 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game last season for the Detroit Pistons, yet he is still in Summer League.
NBA Summer League isn’t just for rookies and sophomores; older players honing their skills or trying to make a comeback also participate. This seems to be the case for Knox, though he risks being compared to a 26-year-old college football player still in school.
