[Saba Sports News] Owning their own F1 racing track is a dream for many racing fans. In Amarillo, a city in northwest Texas known for its industrial and commercial activities, there is a track located just 20 minutes east of the city. The track is designed similarly to the 19-turn Istanbul Circuit in Turkey and was once referred to as “the best race track in the world” by former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone. Construction of the Texas track began in 2012 and it eventually became nearly a mile long. The track was initially a personal project of local orthopedic surgeon Thane Morgan, built to cater to his children’s racing interests and like-minded friends, and was not open to the public initially. It wasn’t until 2017 that the ProKart Challenge was held at the Texas track, attracting 100 participants. In 2022, the Amarillo Speedway was sold to Joe Yuchinski and his two brothers. They extensively renovated the former private facility, making it more suitable for hosting events and welcoming the public. The track opened to the public at the end of May 2023. However, due to poor management, the entire land of the racing track was put up for sale just 11 months later, with an asking price of US$2 million.
