[Saba Sports News] After winning the men’s doubles title at last week’s Asian Badminton Championships, Aaron Chia Teng Fong/ Soh Wei Yik will receive a reward of 20,000 Malaysian Ringgit under Malaysia’s National Sports Reward Program (SHAKAM). Malaysia’s National Sports Council confirmed that despite a new reward mechanism currently being formulated, the duo will still be rewarded under the existing system. It is reported that the new reward mechanism is undergoing a two-month review before being submitted to the National Sports Council for final approval. “After successfully winning a bronze medal at last year’s Paris Olympics, Aaron Chia Teng Fong/Soh Wei Yik received a substantial reward of 100,000 Malaysian Ringgit under the National Sports Reward Plan. Additionally, the Malaysian Badminton Association awarded them each 125,000 Malaysian Ringgit. The total prize money at the Asian Championships held last week was 500,000, with the doubles champions receiving 37,000 (approximately 163,000 Malaysian Ringgit). If we include the Sports Council’s rewards, their total winnings from this championship victory will amount to at least 183,000 Malaysian Ringgit, not including any additional rewards from the Malaysian Badminton Association.
