Sports News] Recent reports from Italian media indicate that the investigation
into the AC Milan acquisition case has taken a significant step forward.
Giorgio Furlani, the current CEO, and Ivan Gazidis, the former CEO, are set to
be summoned by prosecutors. On March 13, the Milan Prosecutor’s Office
registered Forlani and Gazidis as subjects of investigation for allegedly
obstructing the functions of public regulatory agencies. This is due to the
suspicion that if the AC Milan acquisition was indeed a fraudulent transaction,
the actions of the two CEOs would impede the supervision work of the Italian
Football Association. Presently, the prosecutor of the Italian Football
Association, Giuseppe Gine, is in contact with the Lombard prosecutors, and it
is expected that the Football Association prosecutors will soon interrogate
Gazidis and Forlani. From a sports judicial standpoint, AC Milan faces the
possibility of having points deducted as the false acquisition appears to be a
violation of Article 32 of the Italian Sports Judicial Regulations. After
thoroughly reviewing all the relevant documents, Football Association prosecutor
Gine may choose to bring charges against AC Milan. Although the primary person
responsible is another CEO, the club itself may still face sporting penalties.
