[Saba Sports News] Following the recently concluded F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso expressed strong dissatisfaction with the circuit in a media interview. He stated: “The track is on the verge of being unsafe and unsuitable for racing. We need to talk to the FIA about whether this situation is acceptable for the coming years. The circuit layout itself is fine, but the asphalt and its position on the calendar are both at the limit.” He also highlighted the demanding schedule, mentioning the upcoming 17-hour flight to Qatar for the next race and the significant time difference, which he considers an unreasonable sporting arrangement. We believe Alonso’s criticism serves as a wake-up call for F1. For the healthy development of the sport, F1 and the FIA indeed need in-depth communication with drivers. This should involve improvements to aspects like the asphalt and lighting of the Las Vegas track, alongside a reassessment of the calendar schedule. Finding a balance between commercial entertainment, competitive safety, and driver rights is crucial. Otherwise, such controversies will only continually erode the professionalism and credibility of the sport.
