[Saba Sports News] Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso recently voiced his criticism of the penalty system in Formula One. He described the current state of Formula One racing as “over-regulated” and expressed his discontent with the handling of penalty points. Alonso emphasized that race stewards often confuse dangerous driving with racing errors, leading to unjustified point deductions. This includes an incident involving Zhou Guanyu during the Austrian F1 Grand Prix, where Alonso pushed Zhou Guanyu off the track at Turn 3. After the race, Alonso admitted in an interview that the accident was a result of his own driving error, as he did not anticipate the car tires locking up. The penalty points system was introduced in Formula One in 2014, where drivers are often deducted points for on-track clashes with other drivers. If a driver accumulates 12 points within 12 months, they will face an automatic suspension. However, no driver has reached the required 12 points for suspension thus far. Currently, Alonso has only 4 points remaining on his super license, and there is a possibility of him becoming the first F1 driver to face suspension.
